Custom RF. Quad-band. Automotive. Mobile.
This low-power, quad-band device was custom designed to inhibit cell phone usage inside (and ONLY inside) government and commercial vehicles in a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) pilot program effort investigating methods for mitigating the "distracted driving" caused by cell phone usage.
system design:
- monitor all GSM, CDMA, and TDMA cell uplinks
- jam specific uplink/downlink signals (with proprietary algorithms)
- log specific cell and board-level activity
- USB
- PC application for data retrieval/display and board configuration
embedded hardware and software design:
- Altera and Xilinx FPGAs
- robust RF frequency synthesis section for quad-band cellular RX/TX
- Microchip micro-controllers
- accelerometer (to detect if vehicle is moving)
- 12V (mobile) power
- custom multi-band (700Mhz to 2.2Ghz) antenna
